This program is the result of a study carried out by Nebrija’s Higher Polytechnic School, which investigated the needs of the main stakeholders in the sector in the training of their human resources, among which were: OEMs, component producers, companies suppliers of technology for production, consultants, HR recruitment companies, specialists in Industry 4.0 and Clusters of the automotive industry.
The companies of the sector demand a practical approach, with a common language, intra-entrepreneur spirit, a decided approach to collaborative work with customers and suppliers -both internal and external- and one that allows the efficient and profitable use of new industrial production technologies.
Spain is one of the most important centers worldwide for the production of vehicles and parts/pieces for them. Its main implication is in the area of production. The industry of car manufacturers (OEMs) is of strategic first order, with a business fabric of 17 plants and over 1,000 companies associated with a production of more than 2.8 million vehicles (2nd producer of passenger cars in Europe and 8th worldwide), being the 1st export sector (2016) and 3rd in contribution to manufacturing GVA; with a used capacity of over 80% -above the world average- and with an average annual investment of €4 billion. Regarding human resources, it has one of the best job recoveries since the crisis and is Europe’s leader in productivity, with an average contract cost for the company of €43,600/year, with more than 67 thousand people employed.
For its part, the automotive components sector has an annual turnover of €34 billion annually (2016) and 60% of these sales are exported with 170 countries of destination, a figure that amounts to 80% if we compute the components exported within the vehicles manufactured in the country. It is noteworthy that in the last 14 years, the component industry has made investments in third countries for 5.7 billion euros – 350 plants in 35 countries – to produce mainly in Europe and Latin America. They invest 4% of turnover in R+D+i, being the 4th industry with the highest expenditure in this regard. The compounded annual value-added growth rate (TCAC) of the component manufacturers was 18.8% in the period 2012-2015. This sector has occupied 212 thousand jobs with 82.6% of fixed contracts.
According to KPMG (2017): “… the industry is facing a change in the productive model in which it is necessary to adapt more flexibly and quickly to the new disruptive models characterized by connectivity, alternative energies, digitalization and automation …” and this Master’s degree is a response to the training of human resources to meet these needs.
