The University of West Florida’s master’s in exceptional student education produces teachers, behavior analysts, administrators, related professionals and specialists in many areas of exceptional student education. Because our cohorts begin each semester, you can earn your degree quickly and pursue advancement in your field.

Program structure
Students in this master’s degree program must complete a core of 21 credit hours, which includes a course in the Department of Teacher Education and Educational Leadership (12 credit hours) and an Educational Investigative Sequence (9 credit hours). Students must also complete a cognate program of at least 15 credit hours in either applied behavior analysis or special and alternative education.

Academic requirements
To be considered for provisional admission into the University of West Florida’s online master’s in exceptional student education program, you must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution. Teacher certification is not required for applicants to the specialization in applied behavior analysis. Other criteria for successful admission include:
A cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale*
Due to COVID-19 and in an effort to better accommodate our students, the Exceptional Student Education, M.A. will waive the GRE/GMAT through Summer 2022.
*Applicants with an undergraduate GPA below 3.0 must submit a GRE verbal or MAT score at or above the 50th percentile
